5 EXERCISES FOR KNEE PAIN

Knee pain is one of the most common problems which one faces. The knees actually bear almost total weight of our body throughout our lifetime. Hence it becomes weaker by the day. Special care is essential for this joint. Here are some very easy exercises which would keep the knees healthy and prevent pain. 

Straight Leg Raise

Straight Leg Raise -  Lie on the floor. Keep hands straight parallel to the body on the floor. Bend left knee. Lift the right leg straight, toes pointed. Pause. Lower the right leg to the ground, repeat the process with the left leg. Make a set of 10 repetitions for each leg. Do 3 sets at least.

Pillow Squeeze
Pillow Squeeze - Lie down on the floor. Fold knees, feet on the floor. Place a pillow between the knees. Squeeze the knees together, pressing the pillow. Hold for 5-10 seconds. Make each set of 10 repetitions, and do at least 3 sets.



Heel Raise

Heel Raise - Stand straight. Take support by holding a chair or the wall. Lift your heels off the ground and rise up on the toes of both feet. Hold for 3-5 seconds. Lower the heels slowly. Do 3 sets of 8-10 repetitions.




Leg Lifts
Leg lifts - Lie on your right side. Use right hand to support the head and left hand to balance. Keeping the top leg straight, lift it up slowly as far as you are comfortable. Hold for 5 secs and lower. Do 10 repetitions. And then switch side. Repeat the whole process for 4 sets ( 2 sets for each leg).




Stand Up and Sit Down
Stand Up and Sit Down - Take a chair. Keep a cushion or a pillow on it. Sit on it with feet flat. Stand up slowly, hold for a few seconds, and slowly sit down again. Repeat for about 5 to 10 times.

HOW TO KEEP BONES HEALTHY

  • Including Calcium in diet- The recommended dietary allowance of calcium for men is about 1000mg and for women is 1200mg approx per day. Also general people under 50 should get minimum of 1,000 mg of calcium per day. People over 50 should consume 1,200 mg. This is the most necessary nutrient for keeping the bones healthy. TAKE ACTIONS BEFORE ITS TOO LATE


We are living in the age where career is the topmost priority for most of the individuals. Family matters and personal life have become secondary. People spend most of their time in their workplace sitting in front of the computers. They exceed the maximum limit they should spend sitting. Apart from that, today’s highly sedentary lifestyle and lack of proper exercises makes our body further vulnerable to all kinds of diseases. DONATE GENEROUSLY FOR NEPAL QUAKE VICTIMS





It is said that no matter how much development and advancement mankind may achieve, it remains helpless in front of Nature’s fury. This was reconfirmed on 25th April 2015 when a severe earthquake devastated and shattered Nepal with parts of India and China.
It was a normal day with people busy in their daily activities when calamity struck in the form of a disastrous earthquake which measured 7.9 on Richter scale. The earthquake was so sudden that even before people could escape, the buildings fell like house of cards.
This picturesque tourist destination of the world with a high number of heritage sites took no time to get transformed into rubbles with debris, shattered buildings, dead bodies and injured people crying for help.
The United Nations estimated that about 8 million people are affected and till date the death toll has reached over 6200. 14000 people are injured with need of urgent attention. According to officials, more than 100 people in neighboring India and China also died in the quake.
Approximately 13,500 government buildings were partially damaged while more than 10,000 government buildings were destroyed. And till now the number of damaged dwelling houses is out of estimate.
Help came promptly from many countries, including India, China, USA, UK who rushed disaster rescue forces to Nepal and also food, water, tarpaulin etc. India played a vital role with the largest rescue team working on ground zero along with military choppers and a team of volunteers.
The Nepal government on Thursday, 30th April, decided to set up a $2 billion fund to rebuild thousands of buildings that were either damaged or destroyed in the killer earthquake. The UN's food agency on Thursday called for 8 million dollars in donations urgently. The 7.9 magnitude earthquake- Nepal's biggest in 80 years - has left about 3.5 million people needing food donations. The injured are lying untreated in the hospitals because of scarcity of medicines and equipments. A huge population is left homeless and with an unsure future. Parentless children don’t even comprehend what actually the situation is, and all they want is food. The UN and its partners have called for 415 million dollars in emergency donations to meet the most urgent needs in Nepal.

When a tragedy like this strikes, it is the duty of the fellow human beings to stand beside the affected ones.  The world is donating Nepal with whatever possible, and praying for its fast recovery from this dreadful catastrophe.
