Busting Myths Around Arthritis

All that is natural is not good for you. So don’t let people who think that arthritis is a natural part of ageing stop you from seeking treatment.

With over a 100 different types of arthritis, it is not difficult to see why there are so many myths surrounding the disease. While some of the myths are amusing, others are downright deadly. Instead of relying on hearsay, it is time to get the facts right and set the record straight.

Myths and facts

1. While joint pain commonly occurs when you get old, it does not mean that you should adopt a fatalistic attitude towards it. Yes, you will no longer be able to run as fast as you could in your twenties. But you can try to live a normal life even if you have arthritis. Although old age and arthritis are irreversible, there are lots of things you can do regarding the risk factors.

2. While arthritis is inevitable, you can slow down its advent by making appropriate lifestyle changes. You can work on your weight since more stress you place on your joints, the greater will be the wear and tear. Sportspeople have a much higher risk of developing arthritis because of intense use along with the risk of injury. If you have weak muscles around the joints like the knees, it raises the risk of injury and arthritis.

3. Whether you have arthritis or not, you should be physically active. Earlier, arthritic patients were expected to take rest and not put pressure on the joints. Now there is a significant body of research which suggests that light exercise is important even for people with arthritis. The key is to do low-impact activities like cycling, walking and swimming.

4. How much you weigh plays a role in how soon you will have arthritis. Thus, losing even 5 pounds makes a big difference to the progression of the disease. A small weight loss can reduce the symptoms of arthritis like pain and stiffness.

5. Some people do not see arthritis as a major threat. Such people do not know that it is the most common cause of disability. About one in five adults are affected by some form of arthritis. With proper care, lifestyle changes and diet, you too can avoid arthritis.

Overcome Arthritis By Sleeping Well

Arthritis makes it hard for many people to sleep well at night. The perception of the pain and the stiffness increases as you lie in bed trying to get some sleep.

Poor sleep is connected with arthritic pain. The less people sleep, the more pain they experience. According to Kevin Fontaine of John Hopkins University, people with arthritis must try to get sleep at night if they want to reduce the perception of pain.

Here are six tips for better sleep:

1. Since managing pain is important, try not to go to bed if you are in pain. You simply won’t get any sleep if you are in pain. Schedule your medication so that you can get the required 8 hours rest. Avoid activities at night which worsen arthritic pain. Take a hot shower if you want before going to bed.

2. Steer clear of stimulants like tea or coffee before going to bed. Tea or coffee forces the body to stay awake even if it is time for bed. It is better to drink herbal tea in the evening if you have any trouble sleeping. While drinking alcohol makes you sleepy, it will leave you wide awake halfway through the night, thus completely disrupting your sleep cycle.

3. The accumulated stress from a hectic lifestyle can also prevent you from sleeping. Avoid stressful activities like watching the news before going to bed. Do something relaxing within the two hours before bedtime. Read a good book or listen to relaxing music. Work on a hobby which you find relaxing.

4. Be active during the day since it helps to establish your sleep cycle. The exercise helps to strengthen your muscles and joints. Physical activity has been shown to reduce stress, which in turn helps in sleep. Activities like swimming and light aerobics can be done even by people with arthritis. Light activity like walking can be done during the evening.

5. Don’t work in your bedroom. This helps to associate the bed with nothing but sleep. Avoid watching TV or browsing the web while in bed. Among psychiatrists it is common knowledge that doing no activity other than sleeping in the bed room trains your body to respect the bedtime.

6. Restrict the amount of time spent in bed. That way, you are more likely to feel sleepy when you are in bed. Don’t stay in bed if you cannot sleep. Get up and do some activities like reading a book or listening to music.

Milk Slows Down Knee Arthritis In Women

Women should drink milk to combat knee arthritis. The same cannot be said for yogurt or cheese. Low-fat milk slows down the progression of osteoarthritis of the knee. This finding was made by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in the US.

Researchers led by Dr. Bing Lu of  Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston found that eating cheese increased the progression of knee arthritis in women. Taking high amounts of yogurt had no effect on knee arthritis in either men or women.

Osteoarthritis is the leading form of arthritis which affects 27 million people above the age of 25 years. Knee arthritis tends to be more severe in women.

The study was published in Arthritis Care & Research. According to researchers, it was then evident that milk consumption played an important role in the treatment of arthritis.

The study involved 1260 women and almost 900 men with knee arthritis who gave information of their dietary habits.

The study found that women who drank milk regularly reduced the progression of osteoarthritis. This indicated that more research needed to be done on the effect of milk on joint health.

The researchers encouraged women with osteoarthritis to drink low-fat milk as a way to combat the progression of the disease.

Marlo Mittler is a nutritionist at Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York. According to her, milk plays an important role in bone health. It contains nutrients like phosphorus, calcium, protein and vitamin D.

According to Mittler, how exactly milk slows down the progress of arthritis is a subject which needs deeper exploration.

There are some simple steps that women with knee arthritis can take to prevent the disease from overwhelming them. The most important thing is to maintain a healthy weight. This reduces the stress on the joints. This also reduces the inflammatory action of fat tissue. Consuming vitamin C helps to produce cartilage. Women should remember to consume the required amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and other anti-inflammatory agents.

What Exercises Should People With Osteoarthritis Do?

People with osteoarthritis should exercise or face greater stiffness and pain. People with or without arthritis should do exercise regularly since it adds to the overall health. It is especially important for people with arthritis since it slows down the level of disability associated with the condition. The disability related to the disease increases the disability from not getting enough exercise. If you allow the pain to stop you from moving your joints then you will gradually start to lose the ability to move. Be aware of this vicious cycle in order to avoid it.

Earlier, people with arthritis were asked to take rest and not move the affected joints. Now there is a considerable body of medical literature which suggests that using the joints regularly keeps them and the muscles around them strong and healthy. This prevents some of the damage caused by arthritis.

Yes, it is true that a person with arthritis cannot exercise like a twenty year old. People with osteoarthritis should avoid exercises which put a high degree of stress on the joint – in short, such people should avoid high impact activities.

Exercises to avoid

  • Running and jogging
  • Jumping rope
  • High-impact aerobics
  • Activities where both your feet are off the ground

 Areas of focus
  • Weight-bearing cardiovascular activities
  • Muscle strengthening activity
  • Flexibility and range of motion

Cardiovascular exercise

People with knee and hip osteoarthritis should walk more or swim or cycle. Walking at a brisk pace keeps you mobile and helps to reduce pain. You can try recumbent cycling as an alternative to walking. If that is too much for you then you can exercise in the swimming pool. Use a heated pool since cool water is painful for arthritic joints.

Muscle-Strengthening Activity

While some people think that lifting weights is bad for arthritic patients, research suggests that the opposite is true. Strength training makes the muscles around the joints strong. This helps to take some load off the arthritic joints.

Flexibility and range of motion

People with osteoarthritis can do stretching exercises to increase flexibility and the range of motion in your knees and hips. Such exercises allow the joints to lubricate themselves and heal the damage caused by arthritis. You can do these exercises in a pool or on a mat.

Before you start any exercise, be sure to consult your doctor. If you can manage it, try to do these exercises 2 to 3 times in a week.

Keep Your Joints Healthy With These Simple Tips

The cartilage that cushions your joints wears away over long periods of time. This gradual wearing away is called osteoarthritis. Without adequate cushioning, the bones in your joints rub against each other, thus causing pain.

Once the cartilage begins to wear out, the process cannot be reversed. It is not possible to reverse the progress of arthritis once it has set in. What you can do is to slow down the process. With some simple steps, you can protect your cartilage from erosion to some extent.

1. If you're overweight, losing some pounds can take stress off your joints, especially the ones in the knees and hip. This reduces the wear and tear in the joint. You may slow down the progress of arthritis if you lose weight.

2. Joint pain may make you want to stop exercising. Research however shows that aerobic exercise boosts blood flow to the joints which in turn keeps the cartilage well-nourished. Regular exercise can help you to maintain a healthy weight. Doctors suggest that you should stay as active as possible. Try to avoid high-intensity activities like running. It is better to stick to just walking or cycling.

3. The stronger your muscles are, the more stress your joints can absorb. You should focus on strengthening the muscles around the joints. Work with a personal trainer to plan your workout routine.

4. Stretching increases the joint’s range of motion. This not only keeps stiffness at bay but also helps to protect the cartilage from erosion. The more the joints are used, the more nourishment the cartilage can derive from the joint fluids.

5. If you are suffering from pain, then you can try out hot or cold therapy. Heat therapy increases circulation to the affected area, while cold therapy temporarily reduces the sensation of pain.

6. You can employ meditational techniques and relaxation methods to better cope with joint pain. According to National Institutes of Health (NIH), studies have shown that the practice of mindfulness meditation is helpful for people with joint pain. Researchers have also found that meditation keeps arthritis-related depression at bay.

Simple Ways To Treat A Sprained Ankle

sprained ankle is a common injury. This kind of injury is usually caused by walking on an uneven surface. Some 25 thousand people face this grave injury every day. Sometimes, the pain in the beginning is bearable. Later on, the ankle begins to swell. It may hurt so much that you are unable to stand.

There are two kinds of sprains: an inverse sprain (where the ankle rolls inwardly) or and eversion sprain (where the ankle rolls outwards). Any pain along the inner side of the ankle is an indication that there has been serious injury to the tendon or the ligaments. Such an injury should be brought before an experienced doctor.

Research shows that you are likely to suffer from a sprain when your toes are on the ground. This position is especially precarious for your ligaments. A sudden landing on an uneven surface can shift the ankle inward. This suddenly puts enormous strain on some of your ligaments. This causes the injury.

A sprain can be difficult to distinguish from a fracture at first glance. While you should certainly seek the expert advice of a doctor, there are some simple steps you can take to treat a sprain on your own:

1. Give complete rest to the affected ankle. Do not walk with it or put any pressure. If you have to walk, then use crutches. An ankle brace can control swelling and give stability while the ligaments are undergoing the healing process.

2. Apply ice to control the swelling. Wrap ice cubes in a cloth and then apply to the affected
area. Do not put ice for more than 20 minutes at a time.

3. Compression can help control the swelling and can support your injury.

4. Keep the ankle elevated by reclining it above the waist level.

Swelling should diminish after a few days. Some sprains are so serious that they require urgent surgical procedure. However, such sprains are rare.

The injured ligament needs time to heal itself. The first stage of the healing process involves resting the ankle and reducing the swelling. Then it is time to restore your ankle’s flexibility. Then you should do some simple exercises to give strength to the ligaments in the ankles.

After an extended period of rest, you should be able to again put some pressure on the ankle. This is the perfect time to start doing simple leg exercise. Start gradually and slowly increase the length and intensity of the exercise routine. Regular exercise adds flexibility, balance and range of motion to the ankle. Later on, you can think about jogging with a supportive ankle brace.

Walk In High Heels Free From Pain

There is no doubt that high heels are attractive to some women. However, it can cause a lot of health problems. Regular wearing of high heels can cause pain in the heels, calf muscles and the back. According to Morris Morin (Director of Pediatrics at Hackensack University Medical Center) heels directly cause pain in the legs.

Stubborn problems like bunions and calluses and pain in the heel are caused by wearing heels. Such problems can persist for years and can intensify. Still, it is difficult for some women to give up wearing high heels. Many will outright admit that they will continue to wear high heels in spite of the pain.

How high heels cause pain?

The shoes restrict the foot and increase the weight on the restricted area. Most of the weight gets transferred to the toes. The shoe constricts the natural shape of the foot. This puts enormous stress on the feet. Overtime, this stress leads to pain. If the foot is placed forward then the pressure on the bone increases. Sometimes, it can lead to a “hammertoe” condition, where the bone of the toe curls under, leaving the top to rub against the shoe. If you primarily wear heels, you can suffer from the shrinkage of Achilles tendon. This can even prevent you from walking barefoot.

How to avoid pain?

So you still want to wear high heels. They are such an attraction for you that you cannot leave them behind. If that is the case, then the least you can do is to follow these five tips:

1. Try to get the best available fitting. Wearing badly fitting shoes can place enormous stress on your feet and calves. Look for narrow heels with a snug but not tight fit.

2. You can insert silicon metarsal pads to the bottom of the shoes. These pads do a good job in shock absorption.

3. Wear thick heels for stability. A thicker heel gives you balance and may relieve some stress from the feet.

4. Look closely to the slope of the heel. Some shoes have a straight drop to the floor while others have a more gradual slope.

5. Try to find out heels with open toes. This provides relief to those with calluses.

Why Do You Have Joint Pain?

If you have joint pain, you probably wonder why you are trapped in such a terrible situation.

Joints are the connections between bones. They provide support as well as mobility. Any damage to the joints can make it difficult for us to move and perform our daily tasks. It can also cause a lot of pain.

There are many causes to painful joints, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, sprains, and other injuries. Sadly, joint pain is very common. About one-third of adults have joint pain at some point of their lives. Knee pain has been the most common complaint, followed by shoulder and hip pain; but joint pain can affect any part of your body. As you get older, painful joints become more common.

Reasons behind joint pain

1. Inflammation inside the joints is one of the most common causes of joint pain. Inflammation is a process through which the body's white blood cells protect us from infection. In some diseases, however, the body's immune system triggers an inflammatory response even when there are no foreign substances to fight off. The body's immune system ends up causing damage to its own tissues.

2. Since cartilage has no nerve endings, it is not possible for you to know whether they are damaged or not. If your cartilage is badly worn, the bone beneath it begins to slowly wear out. This is when you feel the pain since you do have nerve endings in bones.

3. Carrying heavy items regularly can lead to pain in your arms, legs and shoulders. You can also get joint pain since the extra pressure puts a lot of stress on the joints. Being overweight can also increase stress on your joints.

4. Taking on extra physical work can also cause joint pain. You might be able to complete all the tasks but you will end up with aching joints the next day.

5. Inflammation in the structures around the joint can lead to enormous pain.  Inflammation in the bursa can happen to the shoulders and hip joints. Inflammation can also occur in the ligaments that hold the joints together. This may happen in your knee joint too.

6. Sometimes it is possible that pain coming from one part of the body manifests itself in another part of the body. This commonly occurs in cases of sciatica. You need to contact a medical professional to find out the true source of the pain.

Keep Arthritic Pain Away With Hot And Cold Therapy

Instead of suffering from intense agony in silence, why not give hot and cold therapy a try? Perhaps you have heard about the treatment from your friends. May be you had tried it once a few years ago. You are probably wondering:  is it worth it?

According to doctors: it really is. Hot and cold therapy can be used to subdue inflammation and soften the pain and stiffness. It may take a while to learn which therapy works better for you. But if you stick to the regimen, the benefits you shall reap are enormous. Such a therapy makes it easier to manage arthritis and live a tolerably normal life.

The therapy works by stimulating the body’s own healing system. The heat dilates the blood vessels which in turn increases blood circulation. This reduces muscle spasm. The warmth of the hot pad also reduces the sensation of pain.

At what temperature should you use heat therapy?

Make sure that the pack is not hot enough to hurt your skin. Adjust the temperature to find out your comfort range. Try out different heat delivery techniques like hot baths, hot water bottles or spa therapy. Keep in mind that such a therapy needs your time and patience.

Types of Heat therapy

  • Disposable heat patches or belts
  • Heated swimming pool
  • Hot packs
  • Moist heating pad
  • Warm bath
  • Warm bathtub
  • Warm and moist towel

Cold therapy

Cold packs numb the affected area and help to reduce inflammation and swelling. Ice packs are especially good for arthritic joints. The cooling decreases muscle spasm and increases the threshold of pain.

How often can it be used?

You can safely use hot or cold packs twice a day for relief from pain. According to the American
College of Rheumatology, ten minutes of cold therapy can provide significant reduction in pain experience. The same goes for hot packs.

7 Ways To Relax Your Muscles

Muscle spasm can strike any one and at any time. You might be at work or in the kitchen when you feel a sudden tightness and bulging of a muscle. Such a strange situation is called a spasm attack. Such a cramping can happen for a variety of reasons.

The most common parts of the body to suffer from muscle spasm are the abdomen, arms, hands and feet. Your calves, hamstrings, quadriceps and the rib cage are also susceptible. In many cases, muscle spasm can be caused by heavy exercise or physical activity.

Muscle spasm can be a symptom of diseases like multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and
McArdle’s disease. People from acute neck and back pain often suffer from muscle spasm. Due to sudden increase in weight, even pregnant women are vulnerable to it. Menstruating women also suffer from uterine contractions, though the severity varies from person to person.

Here we provide simple and easily applicable ways to relax your muscles:

1. Chamomile: It is an ancient herb that has been used to treat various diseases for centuries. It is rich in flavonoids which have anti-inflammatory power. Massage chamomile oil on the affected area to provide relief from spasms. You can also make chamomile tea to help relax the sore muscles.

2. Cherry juice: It helps to reduce inflammation and muscle pain. Studies reveal that cherry juice can reduce post-exercise muscle pain. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the fruit can help to relax the affected muscles.

3. Blueberry: Another natural way to help relax your muscles is by eating blueberries. A recent study suggests that having blueberries before and after exercise can help to recover quickly from muscle damage. The fruit has antioxidant powers and reduce oxidative stress as well as inflammation.

4. Cayenne Pepper: Capsaicin is a natural muscle relaxant which is found in cayenne pepper. It is often recommended to people who suffer from Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis. It can be added to food as a flavouring element. You can also apply cayenne pepper cream on the affected area.

5. Vitamin D: Regular occurrence of muscle spasm can be the symptom of deficiency of vitamin D. While this vitamin can be taken in capsule form, it is better to take it naturally in the form of eggs, fish etc. Make sure to get regular exposure to sunlight.

6. Magnesium: It is an important part of nutrition. The element helps to maintain muscle and nerve function. One of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency is muscle pain. The mineral occurs naturally in bananas, almonds and legumes.

7. Rest: Make sure to get lots of sleep. Try not to overwork the affected muscles. Use heat pads or ice packs on the muscle to provide relief. Sometimes muscle spasms are due to over-stimulated muscles, and ice can help calm them down.

Arthritis Can Be Treated Effectively With Homoeopathy.

Arthritis can range from a mild condition like tendinitis to a totally debilitating problem like Rheumatoid Arthritis, and create havoc in a person’s life. The most common complaint among arthritis patients is arthritic pain in the joints originating from the inflammation of the joint lining.

A recent study titled ‘Homoeopathic therapy in Rheumatoid Arthritis: Evaluation by double-blind clinical therapeutic trial' found that 82% of the patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis felt some improvement after getting homoeopathic treatment. The study also highlighted that only 21% of the patients who were given a placebo received a similar degree of relief. The study was published in the.
British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology.

According to Dr. Brajnish Kumar
(a homoeopathic doctor), homoeopathy provides better treatment for Arthritis because the treatment is devised keeping in mind the physical symptoms as well as the emotional characteristics of the individual patient. The type of symptoms shown by the patient determines their biological and psychological type. The homoeopath chooses the best available remedy only after careful observation of each and every symptom. Both physical as well as psychological symptoms are taken into consideration. The symptoms are treated in such a way, according to Dr. Kumar, that they can never return. Thus, homoeopathic treatment provides complete cure.

In homoeopathic treatment, the symptoms of the illness are considered to be the body’s attempt to heal itself. A homoeopathic remedy is created to mimic the body’s instinctive response to an illness. This allows the body to become healthy without the need for long-term medication. The remedy cures both mild and chronic disorders without any known side effect.

Take Care Of Your Health With Cherries

We all know that cherry season is short. Nonetheless, the sweet little fruit evokes in us the refreshing joy and the thrill of summer. While the fruit itself is highly sensitive to weather and vulnerable to infection, it is still grown in large quantities every year. In the US alone, nearly 370 million pounds are grown every year.

Cherries belong to the family of peaches, plums and apricots. They are the ideal dessert fruit. They are also used to decorate pies and cocktails. Even though it is beneficial to the body, relatively few people are aware of them.

What do cherries have?

A single 130gm of serving contains:
  • 87kcal of calories
  • 22gm of carbohydrates
  • 18gm of natural sugar
  • 3gm of fibre
  • 16% of the daily required vitamin C
  • Iron, calcium and vitamin A

Benefits of cherries

1. Cherries contain anthocyanins and cyanidin, both of which are powerful antioxidants. They have a powerful anti-inflammatory effect. Studies show that cherries reduce the frequency of gout attacks. Eating just 10 cherries per day can reduce the rate of gout attacks by 35%.

2. The fibre, vitamin C and carotenoids present in cherries can play a role in preventing cancer. Cherries inhibit the growth of cancer cells. They also play a role in cellular differentiation, which means that they reduce the risk of healthy cells turning into cancer.

3. Cherries contain melatonin which helps to reduce the concentration of free radicals in the body. This helps to control excess inflammation and the oxidative stress. It plays a role in maintaining the sleep pattern and bodily regeneration.

4. The anti-inflammatory property of cherries relieves pain from osteoarthritis. Women who drank cherry juice twice a day for three weeks reported significant reduction in arthritic pain. According to researchers, cherries have the highest anti-inflammatory content in any food.

5. In many animal studies, cherries have shown the capacity to control the body weight. They slow down the deposition of fat in the body and control the level of triglycerides in the blood.

6. Athletes who take cherry juice before doing exercise experience less pain than those who don’t. Cherries reduce muscle damage and pain during rigorous exercise.

7. Eating cherries regularly activates the peroxisome proliferator activating receptors (PPAR) in the body’s tissue. This helps to control the genes associated with fat and glucose processing. This lowers the chance of contracting heart disease.

How Harmful Is Smoking For Your Bones?

The message is clear: smoking is bad for bone health.

No matter how old you are, smoking is injurious to bone health in particular and your health in general. If adolescents smoke, then they will fail to develop the bone mass. Thus, their skeleton will be weaker than that of a non-smoker.  If you are in your forties, smoking increases the rate of bone loss which in turn leads to many complications.
How smoking hurts your bones?

1. The nicotine and toxins present in cigarettes damage the bones in many ways. The cigarette smoke contains free radicals. They attack the body and put enormous stress on the immune system. Cells, organ and hormones – all are scarred by the effect of smoking.

2. The toxins present in smoke disturbs the concentration of hormones like oestrogen. Oestrogen plays a vital role in bone development. In the presence of cigarette smoke, your liver secretes more oestrogen-destroying enzymes. This in turn increases the rate of bone loss. Smoking makes bone loss worse during menopause.

3. Smoking causes excess secretion of cortisol, which increases stress as well as leads to breakdown of bone cells.

4. The secretion of calcitonin, a hormone which is important for bone growth, is also impeded.

5. The free radicals present in smoke harm bone-making cells called osteoblasts.

6. The nicotine present in cigarette smoke harms the blood vessels. Thus, the bones suffer from poor blood supply. It is no surprise that the rate of fracture recuperation among smokers is slower than that in non-smokers.

What if you stop smoking?

You must understand that bone-making and
maintenance are slow and long-term projects. It will take some time for your bones to heal after so many years of smoke-related damage. The damage may also be irreversible. The longer you have been smoking, the more time your bones will take to recover.

According to a study published in the Journal of Women’s Health, the bone density of a group of post-menopausal women began to improve after they collectively quit smoking, even though they had been smoking for many years. So, there is still hope for you.

Daily Foods To Keep Your Bones Fit

If you have osteoporosis, then you need nutrients like calcium. Breakfast is the best time to give calcium to the bones.

You might ask: how much calcium do you need. Though experts have not reached a definitive number, doctors usually advise up to 1500 milligrams of calcium a day. If you have osteoporosis, then the general advice is to take about three doses of 500 milligrams of calcium a day. This is because the human body can absorb 500 milligrams of calcium at a time.
Calcium also amplifies the benefits of weight-bearing exercise in building strong bones.

Breakfast foods

While many cereals give you half the calcium you need in one day, it is better to have cereal with milk and a glass of calcium-enriched orange juice.

  • Calcium-enriched cereal
  • Calcium-enriched soy milk
  • Milk
  • Yogurt
  • Calcium-enriched orange juice

Lunch and Dinner

If you do not have time for an elaborate dinner, then spread out the calcium across the day. You can
try out an omelette with cheese or broiled salmon. Or you can add cheese, broccoli and sardines to scrambled eggs. You can also try salmon or kale soup.

The Significance Of Aerobics To Your Body.

Regular aerobic activity can help you live longer. Do you need any other reason to do it? Aerobic exercise improves the performance of your heart, lungs and blood circulation.

How does your body respond to aerobic exercise? During aerobic activity, you make use of muscles in your arms, legs and hips. You breathe faster and more deeply. This increases the concentration of oxygen in your blood. Your heart beats faster, which increases blood flow to your muscles and to the lungs. Your blood vessels expandto deliver more oxygen to your muscles and carry away waste products, like carbon dioxide and lactic acid. Your body releases endorphins, which are natural painkillers. Endorphins promote an increased sense of well-being.

It is a verifiable fact that aerobic activity is good for you. As your body adapts to regular aerobic exercise, you'll get stronger and healthier. If you still are not convinced, here are 10 ways aerobic activity help you feel better.

1. Exercise helps you to stay away from excess weight. Combined with a healthy diet, aerobic exercise can help you lose weight as well.

2. You may feel tired at first. But increasingly, you'll enjoy increased stamina. Regular exercise also
reduces fatigue.

3. Regular exercise activates your immune system. This leaves you less vulnerable to viral illnesses.

4. Aerobic exercise reduces the risk of obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke and even certain types of cancer.

5.Aerobic exercises like walking reduce the risk of Osteoporosis

6. If you want to lower the blood pressure and control blood sugar then you should definitely do aerobic exercise.

7. Aerobic exercise also helps to strengthen your heart. A strong heart pumps blood more efficiently, which improves blood flow to various parts of your body.

8. Aerobic exercise boosts your high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and lowers your low-density lipoprotein (LDL). This results in less plaque in your arteries. This in turn reduces the risk of getting a stroke.

9. Many people experience less depressed after a heavy session of exercise.  Exercise also increases the sense of relaxation.

10. Aerobic exercise keeps your muscles strong, which can help you maintain mobility even as you
get older.
