Stay Fit While Working: 5 Amazing Office Exercises !!

The busy lifestyle has taken toll on everyone. It seems like everyone is working for long hours and using that age old excuse of “no time to exercise” more than ever. But what if you could actually exercise while working?

While you won’t be able to work out extensively, you can definitely do stretching, warm ups and even stints of exercises right at your desk. After all, exercise of any amount makes you fit and healthy. Human body is made to move, not sit at a desk for hours together. A recent research suggests that sitting for a prolonged period of time leads to neck pain, back pain and knee pain as well as decline in your productivity.

Exercises at your workplace

Here are some effective exercises which you could do at your workplace to improve not only your physical condition, but your mind as well.

1. Neck muscle strengthening: Place your hands respectively against each side of the  head and try to push against it. Practise the same thing by putting both hands behind your head as well. Repeat 6 times.

2. Lateral raising of arms: Raise your arms straight out laterally at your shoulder height. Repeat this for 5 times on both the sides with an upright posture.

3. Stretch your back: Hug your body, placing the right hand on your left shoulder and the left hand on your right shoulder. Release and repeat, breathing in and out.

4. Standing calf rises: Strengthen your calf muscles by starting with your feet together. Rise up to raise your calves. Hold for 10 seconds. Release and repeat.

5. Chair squats: Tone your lower body by standing at a little distance from your chair. Lower yourself down till you hit the edge of your seat. Then rise up again.

Use every minute wisely

Apart from the pointers above, always remember to use your time effectively. Stand rather than sit, and walk rather than stand. Put a reminder on your desk calendar, a note on your computer to keep a tab on your workout regime at office. Don’t let the fear of embarrassment keep you from exercising at work. Chances are, your co-workers will admire your efforts than being amused. You should have a structured exercise program supplemented by a healthy dietary plan and an active lifestyle.
