Take Care Of Joint Pain Right At Home.

Joint pain has many causes: it occurs due to overuse, or an autoimmune reaction or simply due to ageing. Many pharmaceuticals have various “miracle” products in the market, products which make grand claims regarding their efficacy; claims which they seldom substantiate with evidence. Such products are costly, don’t often work and can lead to unseemly side effects. On the other hand, homemade remedies can be made with ingredients available at the local grocery. Such remedies are affordable and without any known side effects.

1. There are many home remedies made from stinging nettles. They are known to relieve joint pain in arthritis and gout. You can make tea with the dried leaves of the plant. The heat of the tea neutralizes the little stinging hairs.

2. Cayenne pepper can be found in most cupboards. They are mostly used for their spicy flavor. The
pepper contains Capsaicin which provides temporary relief from joint pain by causing local irritation. Mix 2 tablespoons of cayenne pepper with half a cup of cocoa butter, lanolin or coconut oil. Apply directly to the affected joint.

3. Homemade remedies made from grape juice relieve joint pain, while reducing swelling and stiffness. Pectin is found in the cells of many plants and acts as a thickener in preparations. Grape juice contains antioxidants like anthocyanins, which is noted for its effect on reducing inflammation. Pectin regulates the flow of fluids in plant cells and is believed to act to relieve fluid buildup in the joints of arthritis sufferers. Mix 1/2 cup of juice with 2 tablespoons pectin. Add water if needed and drink twice daily for 6 weeks.

4. Turmeric and ginger are both anti-inflammatory agents and will help with osteoarthritis  and rheumatoid arthritis. Its active ingredient is called curcumin, which is a powerful antioxidant. In addition, it lowers the levels of 2 enzymes responsible for causing inflammation. You can take these in a capsule form or make a nice spicy tea to enjoy daily.

5. Epsom salt contains magnesium sulfate. A naturally occurring mineral, magnesium sulfate has been used to get relief from pain for years. Magnesium is something our bodies need, but we can’t produce ourselves. It is used in over 300 different biomechanical responses in our body. You can get magnesium as supplements, or eat food like dark leafy greens like spinach. You can also apply magnesium oil on the affected joints.

6. Rub a bit of olive oil onto the sore joints twice a day. You can also take 2-3 tablespoons daily. A
compound in virgin olive oil is called oleocanthal. It inhibits inflammatory enzymes COX-1 and COX-2.

7. Dandelion leaves can help repair damaged tissue and help the liver clear toxins out of the blood. It contains high concentration of vitamin A and C. Studies have shown anti-inflammatory properties due to the presence of linoleic acid in them. Make dandelion tea, steep 3 teaspoons of fresh leaves or 1 teaspoon dried in 1 cup of boiling water. Strain and drink twice daily.

8.Exercise is vital for those who suffer from joint pain, or arthritis. Exercise will help control weight and strengthens the muscles that support the joint, even when the cartilage is thinning. Exercise lubricates the joints, allowing them to move more freely.
