Managing Lower Back Pain Is Easy - With These 5 Tips

Lower back pain is a common problem in today’s world. It can happen due to many reasons like straining of the muscles, lifting heavy objects or poor lifestyle habits. While there are many remedies available, you may have ignored the ones which are the simplest and easiest to practice. They can work wonders for you if you apply them properly.

Remedial measures

1. Release your endorphins: Aerobic exercises, massage, meditation help to release endorphins in your brain. These hormones block pain signals from registering in the brain. Endorphins help you to reduce anxiety, depression and stress, all of which are associated with chronic back pain.

2. Get enough sleep: In order to control the feeling of pain, you should get at least 8 hours of sleep every night. This will allow your body to undo the damage and stress caused by everyday activities. To prepare your body for sleep, don’t use electronic gadgets or watch TV before going to bed. Try to have a light dinner at least two hours before bed time. Do not take tea or coffee before bedtime.

3. Focus on workouts: The muscles in your abdomen and back perform a crucial task in supporting the lower spine. These muscles normally don't get a good workout during the course of a hectic day. They need to be carefully maintained through exercise. There are many simple exercises that can be performed in 20 to 30 minutes as part of our daily routine. If you are just starting out, even a simple exercise of sitting upright on an exercise ball for half-an-hour a day will keep your core muscles engaged.

4. Keep your brain engaged: When you get free time, try to take part in mentally intensive activities such as reading a book or solving a Sudoku puzzle. By keeping your brain engaged, you are more likely to feel less pain.

5. Apply hot and cold therapy: By applying cold packs or hot packs to the affected area, you can reduce your lower back pain and stimulate the healing process. Cold therapy reduces inflammation which aggravates back pain. It acts as a local anesthetic by slowing down nerve impulses. Hot therapy enhances blood flow and inhibits the pain messages being sent to the brain. You can take a hot bath or shower to help soothe the pain.
