Fibromyalgia – Watch Out For These Signs

You may have been noticing that you feel really stiff in the morning these days. Along with this, you also feel muscle pain, especially at night. While you may want to ignore these signs, they are not going to go away on their own. You may be suffering from Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia – what is it?

It is a chronic condition which causes pain throughout the body, along with tender points along the neck, shoulder and buttocks. A wide range of symptoms are indicative of Fibromyalgia. While the cause of this condition is not yet known, researchers suspect underlying environmental and genetic factors. Fibromyalgia is not known to be life-threatening. However, if left untreated it can severely affect your quality of life and prevent you from functioning at the optimal level.

Signs and symptoms

1. Stiffness: This will be especially noticeable in the morning. Some people also complain of feeling stiff after sitting for a few hours.

2. Muscle pain: You may feel continual pain in the major muscle groups accompanied by muscular spasm and a feeling of general ‘tightness’ in your body.

3. Fatigue: Fibromyalgia causes you to feel tired all the time. You may feel restless and unenergetic.

4. Sleep problems: Some people with Fibromyalgia report problems getting a good night’s sleep. The feeling of constant pain disrupts the body’s circadian rhythm. This results in lack of desire to sleep. When sleep ultimately comes, you may wake up after just a few hours, feeling just as tired.

5. Cognitive difficulties: People with this condition have difficulty recollecting memories. They are unable to concentrate on the task at hand. This makes it almost impossible to perform even simple daily tasks.

6. Abdominal issues: Bloating, nausea and constipation are also indicative of Fibromyalgia. Some people even suffer from low-intensity diarrhoea along with the above-mentioned problems.

7. Headache: A feeling of ‘tightness’ around the skull persists, leading to headaches and general tension around the head.

8. Tenderness: Your jaw and face may feel unusually soft and tender. You may also feel tender spots at the neck, shoulders and buttocks.

9. Sensory hypersensitivity: Even minor odours, noises, lights and even certain foods may feel intolerable. There is a general increase in sensitivity to external phenomenon.

10. Mood shift: Feelings of anxiety are often accompanied (or lead to) full-blown depression.

Don’t wait for things to worsen

You need to address the problem in a proactive manner if you want a swift resolution. If you feel any of the above-stated symptoms, you should contact the nearest pain care clinic which specializes in treating such problems.
